More energy efficient, more savings. It’s a time-tested truth, but thinking about efficiency in terms of dollars and cents is limiting. Just ask Laguna Beach Unified School District (LBUSD), which wokred with Schneider Electric to make energy-focused improvements across district schools and facilities. It’s a project that will trim utility bills, and allow LBUSD to extend the reach and impact of taxpayer dollars, for sure. But administrators and staff are equally focused on the other benefits this type of work can deliver, such as better classrooms and amenities. Teachers have also taken the opportunity to turn the project into STEM learning opportunities, helping educate students on the priciples of conservation and showcasing new technologies. The district’s approach is a study of the far-reaching impact of energy effiency.
“We wanted to make sure we weren’t just focusing on how to save energy, but how we could have the most positive affect on the learning environments.”
– Jeff Dixon, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, LBUSD
